In Memory of Mahmoud Kianoush

In Memory of Mahmoud Kianoush

On Tuesday 12 January 2021 we lost Mahmoud Kianoush, a prolific writer, poet, and researcher and one of the founders and original trustees of the Library for Iranian Studies in London (now Caspian Cultural Centre). Kianoush who was born in Mashad in 1934 started his literary career from a very young age.  By the time he was 30 years old he was already the editor of Sokhan, one of the most important Persian literary magazines of 1960s and 70s.  With more than 80 titles published, his fertile mind never stopped adding to his wide range of output until shorty before his death at the age of 86 in London, where he had made home since 1975. His friends and colleagues at Caspian Cultural Centre dearly miss Mahmoud Kianoush and hope to conduct a memorial befitting of his place in contemporary Persian literature as soon as circumstances allow us.
